Ashen Gods of the Core – #leartesstudios

Hello everyone, For this challenge, I’ve chosen to explore a concept titled “Ashen Gods of the Core.” The idea centers around a forgotten world where ancient mechanical deities lie buried deep within the earth, leaking molten lava as their power fades—or possibly begins to return. The environment is rooted in themes of decay, divinity, and dormant destruction, blending tribal mysticism with lost technologies.

Concept Motivation:

The inspiration for this piece came from the strong visual contrast between tribal presence and decayed megastructures. I was particularly drawn to the idea of lava acting not just as a natural force, but as the blood of fallen gods , seeing from their broken forms into a jungle that has learned to fear or worship them. This project is an exploration of how mythology, environment, and scale can be combined to tell a silent story.

Tools & Workflow:

Engine: Unreal Engine 5 (for real-time environment rendering with Lumen and Nanite) Modeling: Blender (switching from Maya for this project) Asset Sources: Megascans, Cosmos, self-modeled elements Scatter/Set Dressing: Dash or Houdini (for procedural debris and ruins) Cloth Simulation: Marvelous Designer (to represent ceremonial fabrics or banners affected by heat/wind) Additional: Niagara for ambient FX (embers, smoke, and heat distortion)

Challenges & Goals:

Transitioning to Blender for modeling and UV workflows Building a believable lava system that integrates well with the storytelling Creating a strong focal point that visually suggests narrative tension (eg, a worship ritual, or a god mid-reawakening) Ensuring visual balance between natural overgrowth and mechanical ruins

I'm excited to develop this environment as a visual narrative piece—something that invites the viewer to pause and wonder: Were these gods created… or found? Looking forward to sharing progress. #learteschallenge
