I’m joining the Veiled Realms Challenge in the 3D Environment category. The concept I picked is “Ghent” by Max Bedulenko — it really matches the vibe I want to go for: something atmospheric, a bit dark and gritty, with a lived-in feel and layers of subtle storytelling throughout.

The environment I’m building centers around a small, cluttered toy shop tucked away in a forgotten corner of Ghent. On the surface, it feels nostalgic and oddly comforting — a place frozen in time. But beneath that warmth, the shopkeeper hides a darker purpose. Once a respected citizen, he lost everything after the current regime’s “Healthcare Commission” conducted unethical experiments that led to the death of his daughter. Now, driven by grief and rage, he’s repurposing his shop and its tools into something far more dangerous. This story will unfold subtly through environmental details, with the toy shop acting as both a character and a setting — a symbol of innocence twisted by personal tragedy. The scene will suggest the calm before the storm, where objects, lighting and atmosphere slowly reveal what’s truly going on.
Here my references:

I’ll be using Unreal Engine, Blender, Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer. I am going to try to use assets from myself, and Cosmos. The scene will focus on atmosphere and narrative through environment. #learteschallenge
