Update One:

Hello! I'm Toka Haroun and I'm a junior Environment Artist working at Instinct Games for the past two years. I'm excited to start the Veild Realms Art Challenge! I've chosen to create the concept art Qheeva by Max Bedulenko. I'm used to creating interior environments for my portfolio so I'm excited to work on this exterior environment. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's progress and learning from this challenge.

Reference Gathering

I gathered some references of similar architecture styles from Morrocco, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. I also started gathering references for some of the main textures in the scene: Mud wall, Stone wall, and sand/pebble floor. I'm still going to gather the remaining references for props/foliage.

Texture Planning

I created a breakdown of the textures required in the scene. This will help me understand how I will approach texturing various elements in the environment. I will be expanding on this to create my trim sheet plans.

Blockout

I created the blockout in Unreal Engine using a neutral scene setup to focus on getting the correct initial shapes and sizes.

See You in the Next Update

My next step is to gather the remaining references for the props/textures. Then work on iterating my blockout by breaking down the buildings into modular kits. Once I get a good Idea of my kit pieces, I will start planning my trim sheets accordingly. Thanks for checking out my progress and see you in the next update!
