Hi there,
I joined the Veiled Realms Concept Art Challenge with the goal of exploring ancient, monumental environments tied to a lost civilization. My visual research has been guided by the atmospheric work of Max Bedulenko, whose massive structures and grounded architectural language capture the essence of forgotten worlds.
At this early stage, my process has focused on defining composition, narrative and architectural identity. I started with several grayscale thumbnails and loose sketches to explore different perspectives and scales. Most of these compositions aim to express a sense of mystery, ritual, and isolation—key ideas that I associate with the "Veiled Realms" theme.
I’m currently selecting one of the sketches to take into the final illustration phase. Before that, I’ve been experimenting with some Unreal Engine blockings to better understand lighting, spatial depth, and volume. These are purely technical warmups.
For now, I’m also assembling a reference moodboard entirely based on Bedulenko’s work, studying how he handles form repetition, haze, color balance, and silhouette strength. This visual analysis will inform the final concept.
More updates soon as I move forward with painting.
Thanks to the Leartes team and the community for this challenge!
